This is job entailed what you call a Hot Tap (welding on a live line) at E.J. Gallo Glass in Modesto. I did welding on a live (in-service) Natural Gas line.
This job is a little different, but just as much fun. These doors were not hung properly and were hitting the side walls when trying to fully open them which ripped the hinges off the base. I had to remove the door hinges, fabricate 2 each of 2” x 3” x ¼” rectangle tubing so I could extend the mounting position of the door hinges so when fully open, would clear the front wall.
Often times it doesn’t really matter how it’s done just so it’s right when I leave.
Welder Don Crossley needed a heavier duty truck to transfer his highly personalized welder body to. The body weighs over 8,000 lbs., so he bought a Ford F450 Super Cab chassis fully loaded. He loves the truck, but hated the way it rode, thinking it was so rough riding. So he contacted Kelderman, the air suspension people, discussed their product, and had the complete system installed on his new F450. Now, he's a happy camper, or rather, a happy welder. Good ride, all the toys, and rides so smooth in comparison. The truck is owned by Croz Custom Metal Fabrication, Inc., home-based in Fairfield CA working much of Northern California from this great truck.
One of my clients secured a larger shop and is in the process of moving his equipment to the new location. This doesn’t stop the need to stay on track on current projects.
This job is over 4,000 ft. of various sizes of Schedule 10 304 stainless steel piping and fittings. Here I am doing 'Fusion Welding' where the joints are welded (fused) together without the use of adding filler rod. This requires carefully controlled conditions where the heat (amps) and speed (travel) must be in perfect balance to allow the arc to penetrate the two seams to form an internal bead without blowing a hole or causing the joint to suck back and become concave. A positioner helps to control the rotation speed. These are 2 ½” and 3” Tee fittings that get a 1 ½” threaded fitting attached to them.
As you can see, there is much to do here and a lot of focused, careful, and precise welding.
I was called out to the Vacaville’s First Baptist Church on Davis St. several years ago by William Ford Plumbing to repair a Natural Gas leak. I cut out the failed coupling and inserted and welded a solid section of pipe. Problem solved.

Mobile Welder Makes Needed Structural Repair To Boat Trailer!
A customer called me to help him come up with a repair solution for his boat trailer. The rear crossbar had rusted through and the trailer became too dangerous to use. I ended up cutting individual section plates, encompassing the original cross member, and welding it all together. Once I blended the corners It looked like factory and is twice as strong as the original. I elected to leave the ends unwelded to prevent weakening the original crossbar.
