Welding Truck Body Tour

Don Crossley of Croz Custom Metal Fabrication Inc., was kind enough to give us a tour of his awesome welding rig. He recently bought a new Ford F450 Super Cab chassis with all the toys, transferred his existing welding body so that he could have the capacity he needed. He got everything he wanted except he didn't much like the way the truck rode. So he took it to Kelderman and they installed a 4-link air suspension system and Don not only gets a great ride but some added benefits that are really helpful. Croz Welds Support for 80 Foot Tall Billboard Installation

This was an interesting job for Clear Channel Outdoor.  They were installing a new 80’ billboard just off of Highway 101 South on Shaw Road. My part was to cope the temporary I-beams to fit the 48” mast and weld them together to keep the mast plumb and in place while the concrete was setting up.

Recyling Bailer Gets Repaired in Fairfield

 

This was an interesting job at the Recycling Zone in Fairfield. The Main pin on the Baler snapped and launched the main cylinder through the exterior wall. It bent and fractured the 2” thick plate as it twisted out of the pin bore. As a temporary repair (until a replacement plate could be fabricated) I Air Arced out the crack, prepped, and rewelded the plate so they could safely continue operating the machine.

Boat Trailer Gets Repaired - A Day In The Life Of Mobile Welding!

 

Mobile Welder Makes Needed Structural Repair To Boat Trailer!

A customer called me to help him come up with a repair solution for his boat trailer. The rear crossbar had rusted through and the trailer became too dangerous to use. I ended up cutting individual section plates, encompassing the original cross member, and welding it all together. Once I blended the corners It looked like factory and is twice as strong as the original. I elected to leave the ends unwelded to prevent weakening the original crossbar.

Another Trailer Hitch Repair

Hitches- Old and New

I had a call yesterday from a gentleman from Southern California that came down (to Berkeley) for his Dad’s funeral and brought his Air Stream trailer so there would be extra accommodations. As he was leaving his parents property, he caught the Spare tire mounted under the tongue of the trailer and somehow ripped the coupler off of the ball. Bay Area Air Stream in Cordelia recommended he call me for the replacement of the coupler. They also didn’t have one in stock. I suggested he pick one up from

Harbor Freight (believe it or now) because these are the exact same couplers sold by everyone else. I cut and removed all remnants of the old coupler, prepped the “A” frame and welded the new one on. He loaded up and took-off for home.. Yet another crisis averted.

It’s super awesome and rewarding doing what I do. It’s still like magic to me.
