the American Welding Society has made a push towards pushing the welding industry into the future. Part of this effort has meant a re-branding of our logo and website. The new logo reflects a contemporary interpretation of the established AWS diamond insignia with modernized font and beveled metal elements. "Our new logo reflects a new era for the Society as it represents a more contemporary style propelling us into the future, while still maintaining a link to our rich history with our iconic diamond," said Lorena Cora, marketing director, American Welding Society. As part of a comprehensive re-branding effort, the new logo and website will assist the American Welding Society in communicating about the future of welding as a high-tech, highly-skilled industry.

"Small Jobs" are Important Too!

"I've got the Boat Trailer, but How will I tow it behind my 40-foot Gooseneck Trailer?" 

This customer required a 2-inch receiver hitch installed on the rear of his 40-foot 5th wheel trailer strong enough to tow a boat trailer. I removed unneeded plate materials, modified the receiver kit, and extended the original frame to accept the mounting plates of the receiver kit. It was then attached and bolted to the underside of the trailer. 

Ready for towing that boat trailer now!

Several years ago, Urata & Sons Cement out of Rancho Cordova hired me to do some work at the WHHS Morris Hyman Critical Care Pavilion on Bart Way in Fremont. I was asked to weld 1,600  5/8” rebar to the third and fourth-floor decks prior to the concrete being poured. Whew! That's a lot of welds!

Croz Welds Support for 80 Foot Tall Billboard Installation

This was an interesting job for Clear Channel Outdoor.  They were installing a new 80’ billboard just off of Highway 101 South on Shaw Road. My part was to cope the temporary I-beams to fit the 48” mast and weld them together to keep the mast plumb and in place while the concrete was setting up.

Back in 2020 and because of COVID, Potential Electrical Design Services decided to cancel one of the Tesla Super Charger stations in the Vacaville Factory Stores. They had to cut some of the mounting tabs off in order to install them and couldn’t return the modules with them missing. So I made them like new again.

F350 Ford Frame Repair with Full Penetration TIG Welding

 Another Job Completed by Croz Metal Fabrication:

I got called to North Bay Truck to repair both sides of the frame on a F350. Apparently, this customer installed Airbags between the Leaf Spring mounts and overloaded the Receiver Hitch, breaking the frame on both sides directly above the Airbags. With creative rigging (see Forklift Rigging) we were able to tweak the frame back into place and using Tig and ER309 filler, performed a full penetration weld. Crisis averted.

Another Trailer Hitch Repair

Hitches- Old and New

I had a call yesterday from a gentleman from Southern California that came down (to Berkeley) for his Dad’s funeral and brought his Air Stream trailer so there would be extra accommodations. As he was leaving his parents property, he caught the Spare tire mounted under the tongue of the trailer and somehow ripped the coupler off of the ball. Bay Area Air Stream in Cordelia recommended he call me for the replacement of the coupler. They also didn’t have one in stock. I suggested he pick one up from

Harbor Freight (believe it or now) because these are the exact same couplers sold by everyone else. I cut and removed all remnants of the old coupler, prepped the “A” frame and welded the new one on. He loaded up and took-off for home.. Yet another crisis averted.

It’s super awesome and rewarding doing what I do. It’s still like magic to me.

Interesting Baler Repair At Recycling Facility

 

This was an interesting job at the Recycling Zone in Fairfield. The Main pin on the Baler snapped and launched the main cylinder through the exterior wall. It bent and fractured the 2” thick plate as it twisted out of the pin bore. As a temporary repair (until a replacement plate could be fabricated) I Air Arced out the crack, prepped, and rewelded the plate so they could safely continue operating the machine.
